Partnership for Radio Award Recipients

2008 Omni Broadcasting Company Bemidji, Minn.

Omni Broadcasting’s 2007 “Annual 24-hour Radiothon to End Child Abuse” raised over $220,000 for Prevent Child Abuse Minnesota. Since the partnership began in 1989, the telethon has raised more than $2 million.

2007 KGO-AM San Francisco, Calif.

The KGO Radio Cure-A-Thon benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Greater San Francisco Bay Area Chapter. The 2006 Cure-A-Thon raised $1.3 million in just 24-hours.

2006 WTMX-FM Chicago, Ill.

WTMX hosts an annual radiothon to benefit Chicago’s Children’s Memorial Hospital. The 36-hour radiothon raised over $2.1 million to support pediatric research, patient care, education and advocacy.

2005 KLOS-FM Los Angeles, Calif.

The 23rd annual KLOS Blood Drive set a new record for a multi-day, multi-site blood drive, collecting 6,250 units for the American Red Cross and the Bloods Banks of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.

2004 WHUR-FM Washington, D.C.

WHUR joined forces with the Family Crisis Center to provide aid to victims of domestic abuse. The center is the only shelter in Prince George’s County, Md. to provide a 24-hour safe haven for victims of domestic violence.

2003 KDWB-FM Minneapolis, Minn.

KDWB’s vision to help critically ill children began through its partnership with University Pediatrics Foundation and lead to the opening of the KDWB University Pediatrics Family Center. The center provides a place of comfort for families of sick children.

2002 KIXI-AM Bellevue, Wash.

KIXI partnered with Habitat for Humanity for “Blitz Build: 20 Homes in 12 Days.” Through the station’s efforts, their volunteer recruitment goal was exceeded by 25 percent, with enough additional manpower to build a community center.

2001 KFOG-FM San Francisco, Calif.

Each year, KFOG produces “Live from the Archives,” a compilation CD of nationally known artists recorded live at KFOG’s private concerts and broadcasts. Over six years, the station raised more than $1.5 million for the San Francisco Bay Area Food Banks.

2000 WSYR Syracuse, N.Y.

Working in partnership with CellularOne of Central Minnesota, Omni Broadcasting’s annual radiothon has raised significant funds to benefit Prevent Child Abuse Minnesota, as well as local agencies working to end child abuse in the state.
